Beacon Therapy Group’s expert therapists are in-network with BU’s Aetna student insurance. Your copay is $10 per session and no cost for neuropsych assessments.
Our therapists are trained in a range of evidence-based approaches, so your care is tailored to what actually works for you, not just a one-size-fits-all method:
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
- Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Our founder Dr. Elaine Espada, is a BU alum, and we’ve worked with hundreds of BU students over the years.
We deeply understand the academic culture, demands of campus life, and the challenges that come with being far from home – especially for international students.
We strive to offer a space where you feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood.

What to expect for your first therapy session
Details & Timing
Your first session is 45–55 minutes. Your therapist will get to know you: what brought you in, a bit of your background, and what's going on in your life right now. If you've been through difficult or traumatic experiences, you won't be asked to dive in before you're ready. There's no rush. Building trust takes time, and that's okay.
Preparing For Your Session
You don't need to have it all figured out before you arrive — your therapist will guide the conversation. If it helps, you might reflect on:
- What's been challenging me lately?
- What do I hope feels different after therapy?
- What's been helping me cope, and what hasn't?
Next Steps & Ongoing Therapy
At the end of your first session, you and your therapist will talk about whether it feels like a good fit. If it does, you'll schedule your next appointment and go from there. One step at a time.
We’ll guide you through every step of the therapy process.
Choosing to start therapy is an important step and we’re here to guide you through every step of your healing journey. Schedule your first appointment today to get started.
