A Note On Staying Connected
Welcome to the first edition of Between Sessions.
One of the things we value most at our practice is connection. While therapy happens in the room (or on the screen), growth also unfolds in the moments between sessions. You can find it in the conversations you have, the walks you take, the books you read, the pauses you allow yourself, and the ways you care for yourself throughout everyday life.
This newsletter is something new for us: a small check-in meant to maintain connection outside of sessions. Three times a year, we’ll share reflections tied to seasonal themes, practical wellness strategies, helpful resources, and updates about what’s happening around the practice. We hope it offers a small moment to slow down, reflect, and feel supported wherever you are in your journey.
Navigating The Season of Change
Autumn has a way of reminding us that change is both natural and inevitable. The start of a new school year, shifting routines, cooler mornings, and changing leaves all invite transition. But even when change is welcome, it can still be stressful. Our minds and bodies often crave predictability. New routines, unfamiliar environments and changing roles require us to adapt, which takes energy. You might notice excitement mixed with uncertainty, motivation alongside exhaustion, or hope paired with grief for what you’re leaving behind.
If you're feeling "off" during a transition, you're not doing anything wrong. You're adjusting.
TRY THIS BETWEEN SESSIONS
A One-Minute Grounding Practice
Transitions often pull our attention toward what’s next. This exercise gently brings your nervous system back to the present.
- Pause. Look around your environment and slowly notice:
- Five things you can see.
- One object or color that feels pleasant or interesting.
- One thing you can hear.
- One place in your body that feels supported (your feet on the floor, your back against a chair, your hands resting in your lap).
- Take one slow breath before returning to what you were doing. You don’t have to feel completely calm. You’re simply reminding your body that you’re here right now.
Keep One Routine Consistent
Whether it’s your morning coffee, an evening walk, or a bedtime ritual, familiar anchors help create stability.
Change doesn’t have to feel comfortable to be healthy
Growth doesn’t always come with a feeling of readiness. Often, healing means tolerating uncertainty, practicing flexibility, and trusting yourself before you know how things will turn out.
Discomfort isn’t always a sign you’re doing something wrong. Sometimes, it’s a sign you’re growing in a new direction.
Like the seasons themselves, transitions are temporary. We rarely move through them perfectly, but with enough support and self kindness, we can move through them with greater resilience.
